Dr. Raj Aluri
was born and raised in India. He earned his Bachelors and a Masters
degree in Political Science in India. Raj came to the United
States as an international student in September 1976 to study at the
University of South Carolina in Columbia. There he earned two more Masters
degrees--one in International Studies and another in Media
Arts. He completed a Doctoral degree in Education
in 1987.
He is the founding President of the
Agape English Language Institute, which provides English language
instruction to foreign nationals in Columbia, Charleston and Greenville,
South Carolina.
Dr. Aluri founded International
Friendship Ministries, a nonprofit organization in 1981 to serve
the international student community in the United States.
Dr. Aluri also realized a decade-long
dream by organizing the first Columbia International Festival in 1996,
which has become a very successful annual event in South Carolina.
In 1985, Raj married Katherine Grace
Huschilt of Windsor, Ontario. They have six children: Lydia, James,
Paul, Lilian, John and Mark. They live in Columbia.
